My grandfather, Gerrit Hengeveld, committed suicide before I was born. This act has always fascinated me; especially his last steps, the route he walked from his atelier to the river.

As a viewer, you can browse through the photographs of his route and ‘walk’ through as though you are my grandfather, walking the route, every time making a conscious decision to walk further towards the river. Alongside the book, there is an installation of one large print where the same images of my grandfathers route are presented as a map.

De title refers to the things he left behind at the riverside, 1100 guilders, a packet tobacco and a lighter.
